It was the 20th Festival of Photojournalism in Perpignan, France, and the second one I visited. It always revolves around a few great people, some of the best photojournalists in the world … Last year it was Stanmeyer for the greatest part, and this year war photographers were in the spotlight. And since it was all about history, they looked back towards the oldest photojournalists like David Douglas Duncan and Horst Faas.
The festival that runs from 30th August to 14th September is home to about 30 exhibitions from the best photographers in the world. Quite many awards are handed out at the evening screenings, where they show slideshows etc. Current problems of photojournalism are discussed at the symposiums in the congress centre where they also had presentations. The same place hosts all the major world agencies, the Adobe “corner”, the Canon professional centre and the Apple centre during the professional week from 1st to 7th September.
